The Stamp

On the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the historic De Nigris company, a world leader in the production of balsamic vinegar and condiments, a commemorative stamp belonging to the thematic series “The excellences of the production and economic system” was issued. The stamp, signed by Maestro Mimmo Paladino, celebrates not only the company’s illustrious history, but also its fundamental role as an ambassador of Made in Italy in the world.

The stamp issue is a recognition of the company’s history and the De Nigris Community.

Maestro Mimmo Paladino, the father of the Italian Transavanguardia, has been able to trace the evolution of 135-year-old De Nigris with brilliant insight.

Mimmo Paladino, born in Paduli, in the province of Benevento, in 1948, is one of the leading figures of the Italian Transavanguardia, an artistic movement that, starting in the 1980s, revived the use of painting and sculpture after a long period of predominance of the conceptual avant-garde. Paladino has distinguished himself on the international art scene for his ability to blend classical, symbolic and mythological elements with a contemporary sensibility.

The images in his works hark back to a primitive universe, with forms simplified into elegant signs that seem to give rise to a kind of alphabet to be deciphered. They are suggestions that recall an ancient, primitive, graphic world, rich in universal symbologies.

Mimmo Paladino’s contribution to the creation of De Nigris’ 135th anniversary stamp is a perfect synthesis of his artistic approach. The eagle depicted on the stamp’s vignette is a powerful metaphor: a “primitive” symbol that refers to strength and determination, a brilliant passage that recalls the lightness of flight. This combination of traditional elements and openness to the future have been with unprecedented mastery captured by master Paladino as values that De Nigris has embodied since 1889.

A success then consolidated in the following years, when De Nigris products were brought to the international market and production was expanded to the prized Balsamic.
